Building Blocks for Your Blog

As part of the 31 day challenge to Build a Better Blog, Darren at Problogger states that forums are fantastic places for bloggers to participate for 3 main reasons:

1.     Profile Building - You can build a significant profile in your niche by putting consistent time into a large forum.  Basically, you can stand out in the crowd as an expert in your area.

2.    Driving Traffic - People will click through to your main website such as The Somers Team  or your blog - Philadelphia Real Estate Voice .

3.    Understanding your Niche - These forums can become topics of new blog posts.  Our post "Buyers Say No to Closing Costs:  What will sellers say ? " was inspired by a Trulia question.

Four examples of forums we participate in are as follows:

Trulia Voices

Trulia Voices is our favourite forum !  You can answer consumer's questions here and set it up to have the questions emailed to you that relate to your area.  Please check out our Questions and Answers Page I just noticed that we have answered 507 questions !

We have succesfuly closed a number of transactions from connecting with consumers on Trulia and so can you !

Zillow

It is also worthwhile to check out the Zillow forum for advice.   We have not spent as much time here as Trulia but feel it is has potential as well.  We were warned that some consider it the "wild west" of real estate as the discussions can be quite heated and it is frowned upon to have links going to your blog posts which I thought was a negative.

Northern Liberties Message Board Forum

We recently started participating in our local Northern Liberties Neighborhood community board.  I would think in your area there would be a local community message board that you can participate in as well to connect with individuals in the neighborhood.

Active Rain

What better way to participate and comment then in this forum right here on Active Rain ?  One can learn a ton of info and network with other Realtors and professionals all over the country while developing a strong referral network at the same time.  Even within the forum, there are hundreds of invididual groups such as the "Build a Better Blog" Group that we started in correlation to the 31 Days to Build a Better Blog challenge.

There are probably hundreds of forums you can join to help you build your blog.

What other forums do you participate in ? Please share here with a comment.

Have you read some of these top Bloggers ?

Brains in BloggingHave you read some of these must read Bloggers ?

If not, I would suggest that you do !  These guys write incredible and informative blogs and are packed with info !  As part of the Build a Better Blog challenge - Day 6, Darren at Problogger outlined "27 Must Read Tips and Tutorials for Bloggers" in which he asked 9 bloggers that he knows and respects to nominate a few posts from their own blogs that would be most helpful for those of us that are part of the challenge.  In addition, these are just great reads for all of us !

I dived in and read all 27 articles and am pretty much blown away with all the info to digest.  Below are the individual bloggers and their blog posts that resonated the most with me for the moment.  At the same time, I subscribed to several of these great bloggers to receive their updates in the future.  Right now, I have blogging buzz in my brain !

1. Seth Godin

How to get Traffic for Your Blog - Wow, this post mentions 56 tips !  I am doing some of them but can do a lot more.  Am interested in learning more about Digg and Delicious .

2. Rand Fiskin

21 Tactics to Increase Blog Traffic - A great list.  Again, Im intersted to know more aobut Reddit, Digg, Stumbleupon...etc .

21 Tips to Earn Links and Tweets to Your Blog Posts - Wow !  This is a must read... my head is still spinning from this one.

3. Skelliewag

A Complete Guide to Finding and Using Incredible Flick Images- I found this post amazing as I really have not used Flickr much.  We have some of our own photos there but have not searched for photos for our blog as of yet.  But that is going to change after reading this post !

4. Chris Garrett

How to Grow Your Google Authority ?  -This is a very informative article.  I do not think I will ever be an expert on Google rankings and authority, but what I have learned that is key is to be consistent with providing great new content.  I believe with that, it is inevitable that you will move up in the search engines.

5. Yaro Starak

How to Write Great Content - The Pillar Article - This is a great article in terms of writing informative and authorative posts, many of which could be "how-tos" or lists posts.  The beauty about these is that for the most part, they can become timeless.

6. Shoemoney

Why You Should Embrace Negative Press - A very interesting article in terms of negative press giving someone more attention and link-love per se.  The point being is that when you start to grow, people might start to try to bring you down or disagree with your ideas and theories.  When this happens, emrace it - it is part of being successful.

7. Dosh Dosh

Rethinking blog comments: Much More than just a quick way to get Web Traffic - I think we all can relate to this in Active Rain.  How many times do you see a comment on your blog post that has nothing to do with the article ?  Or you see the same person make the same comment on 10 blog posts ?  Commenting is an opportunity to connect with the blogger, to provide relevant communication and an opportunity to grow your networking base.

8. Liz Strauss

10 Reasons Readers Don't Leave Comments - This is simply a great read !  Sometimes I do not leave comments for some of the same reasons Liz mentions.  I think as the blog host this is a must read to help your blog be more interactive.

9. Chris Brogan

50 Ways to take your Blog to the Next Level - Wow !  A must read - packed with info.  I need to read this over and over again.
