UPS. They are well branded and well known with their brown and gold colors. UPS has paid a pretty penny to advertise their "We love logistics" campaign. I always liked the friendly guy in the "White Board" commercials. But does branding and friendly commercials make a great service?
No it does not!
Here's proof.
My telephone rings...
UPS Freight guy: "WHERE YOU AT ?!"
Stephanie: "Um... what?"
UPS Freight guy: "WHERE YOU AT ?!?!"
Stephanie: "Who is this?"
UPS Freight guy: "I got a delivery! "WHERE YOU AT ?!?!?!?
(UPS notified me the day before that a delivery was to come between 12pm and 5pm.) I run home to meet the UPS freight guy who was supposed to call 30 minutes in advance.
UPS freight guy: Looks at me annoyed since he had to wait 5 minutes. Gets a dolly out of the huge truck to drop the 80 pound box in the middle of the side walk in front of me as I stand in front of my condo in disbelief.
Stephanie: "I live on the 3rd floor. I can't lift this. Are you just going to leave it here?"
UPS freight guy: "That costs extra lady. Not my problem. Dispatch should of told you that."
And off he rides into the sunset in his 550 horse powered freight truck, while little ole me is abandoned on N 2nd Street with a huge box bigger than me! What happened to customer service UPS? And to you MR. freight guy... where is your chivalry or sense of pride in your work?
Where have all the cowboys gone?
In an economy where jobs are scarce, those who are blessed enough to have a job, the bar should be raised. UPS, freight guy, and service oriented people should go the extra mile (especially when inside installation was paid for anyway). There are those people who are not working that will. Next time. I am using FedEx !!!
