Sometimes People Get In The Way of Their Own Success
I am sure you have seen many examples of this when people get in the way of their own success. Typically fear plays a major role and being influenced by bad council. I am sure all of us personally can relate on some level where we have made mistakes looking back that got in the way of our own success as well.
Recently, we had a client who hired us to rent out 2 units in a multi-family complex. For one unit, we received 10 applications. Of the 10, we recommended 3 applicants, starting out with the best, that had an 800 plus credit score, the other 2 with 700 plus, all with great incomes. The folks turned down all of them. The other unit was a similar story. They just could not wrap their minds always the process and just did not get it and were riddled with fear. Personally, my wife and I own 10 investment properties and would have gladly taken these applicants. Keep in mind these rentals were for only $750 and $925 a month. These folks were qualified to purchase $300,000 homes!
So instead of having full October occupancies, their units are vacant. We professionally agreed to part ways as there was not much more we could do, suggested they find another Realtor to represent them or perhaps they just needed to do it themselves to find the absolute "perfect" tenant. Their fear blocked them from being able to move forward. And we were unable to help since there were just too many decision makers. We had to make a business decision as not only was our time being lost but other agents as well.
It is a great example of getting in the way of your own success.
