Green Cleaning From Dos Funny Frogs

Dos Funny Frogs

Walking along Girard Avenue in Northern Liberties, you'll see a new storefront with a sign that reads Dos Funny Frogs. With a name like that, you have to stop and ask what they do. Set to open next Wednesday, this green cleaning service specializes in commercial and residential janitorial services using environmentally-friendly products. Why Dos Funny Frogs? Founders Alex Suarez and his mother Yvonne have Cuban roots, and she started the business to put her son through college, where he trained in microbiology and cell biology.

Whether you're looking for a daily scrubdown, monthly maintenance, or a one time clean-up, do it the Earth-conscious way by booking Dos Funny Frogs. You gotta love a name like that.

Call them for a move in our a move out, for a carpet cleaning, or even for your post construction needs. Office and lobby cleaning is also available. In addition to thorough cleaning throughout your property, they also offer special extras, like laundry service and grocery shopping should you need it.

Right now, they're running a May special. If you book your cleaning by May 15, you'll receive your 5th one free.

We welcome this green business to the neighborhood.

"It is not easy being green." Or is it?

"It's not easy being green."

“It's not easy being green” sings Kermit the frog. Being a life long fan of PBS in the 1970‘s including the Sesame Street gang, Zoom, and Electric Company, I sympathize deeply with good old Kermit.

I am about as green as a glass of sand is quenching.  I try though.  I recycle my plastics, glass, and paper products but I make Chris take them out to the dumpster.  I try to unplug to reduce my carbon footprint but easily get defeated on groggy mornings when I turn the coffee maker ON only to realize 20 minutes later that I unplugged it the night before.  I definitely use my re-usable bags when I go to the food market on the rare day I remember to actually bring them with me. I try but I know I can do so much more!

Just recently Chris and I went to a unique Broker Open for a property in our neighborhood that earned a LEED Platinum certification. It was very impressive, cutting edge green construction techniques, ethical and environmentally responsible building products were used, and of course the list price was also very green. Not that the property is not worth every penny. The developer and the team that put that property together put a lot of thought and effort into it. I applaud them. I know it was not easy.

But let's face it, most homes were not built with LEED Platinum certification in mind. Nonetheless, many people like myself want to implement a greener lifestyle and home. How can a homeowner add a little green to their every day life and their home improvement list without spending a lot of green in the process?

Here is my very short list of ideas that I have implemented:

1) Recycle trash and use re-useable bags for shopping

2) Unplug

3) Use energy efficient bulbs (and energy efficient replacement windows and doors if you are remodeling)

What are you doing that is cheap, easy, and green?

Can green choices be easy and affordable?
