I do a weekly blog call Tip Jar. Tip Jar is a short blog post that discusses a cool tip about literally anything. The process I use to get inspired with ideas for the Tip Jar comes to me in a fun and miraculous way. I take a few moments to just get quiet in my head and ask for an idea. Like clockwork an idea will pop into my mind and the Tip is born. I always hope that whatever the message is, it will help a reader out there when they need a good tip.
Recently I wrote a Tip Jar that encouraged reading a book and passing it on. Call it coincidence or synchronicity, the very method I use for getting ideas for my Tip Jar blogs was a foreshadowing of a fantastic book duo I was led to read this summer.
Gabrielle Bernstein's first book, Add More Ing to Your Life, was recommended to me by my colorist at Hush Salon who read a review in a popular fashion magazine. That recommendation really stuck with me. For some unknown reason I was HOT to read this book and that inspired me to write the Tip Jar blog about the book and Gabby the author. I searched for the book high and low and could not find it. Then my good friend Kirsty read my blog and said she just happened to have a copy of the book. She asked if I'd like to borrow it. I thought, "Wow, what a cool coincidence!" Or was it?
Shortly after the Tip Jar was posted, I received an email from Gabrielle Bernstein's promoter asking me if I'd like to review her new book before the official launch on September 12th. The new book is called Spirit Junkie and I just finished reading the digital version over the Labor Day weekend. All I can say is awesome!
If you have been seeking some inner inspiration, read this book. If you are struggling with negative thoughts or fear, read this book. If you are not finding happiness in the world's trappings, your relationships, your children or job, read this book. If you are ready to love every day as a perfect learning experience, this is your book! Though it is written in the voice and through the experiences of a young modern woman in NYC, her message is universal. The message is about choosing happiness through prayer and meditation. Now hold on one minute before you roll your eyes and say, "Stephanie, I think you are floating off into an existential nether-space on us." Listen up! This is the first book I have ever read that illustrates a message that balances being able to love success, skinny jeans, and lattes and still be a powerful spiritual being. No ashram, no vision quest, no fasting, no convents, no specialness or prerequisite required. Just read and show up every day for your personal "assignment".
If you want to know what your "assignment" is, read Spirit Junkie.
