Thinking Positively for the REMAX Convention

Thinking Positively for the REMAX Convention

We are always bombarded with so much negativity – it comes from the media, people, and into our thoughts. We certainly do not have to be negative people. It is a choice. The key is who you surround yourself with.

The more you surround yourself with negativity, the more negative you will be. It is as simple as that. As I am sitting on a plane headed to Las Vegas, I am so looking forward to the positive energy that I know will come from the REMAX convention.

Flying to Vegas

We have been very busy which is great. But some of our deals have been quite hard and it will be nice to take a much needed break. This morning I was on the Facebook group “What Should I Spend My Money On” and I was amazed by the negative bantering of the agents over whether or not Zillow is a good place to invest your money. I was even more amazed by the amount of time that some of the folks must have spent with their comments going back and forth. It got to the point where it made me start thinking negatively and sure enough I left a negative comment. I should have just exited the group and just not left a comment at all.

More importantly, when agents figure out what works for them or surround themselves with other successful people, they will not get sucked in by negativity. I need to remind myself of that and perhaps anyone reading this should, too.

At the REMAX convention, I will be speaking on two panels, one being a panel of high income agents answering questions on what we did to achieve our 2011 production  and another on what we have done to make REMAX Access a cutting edge real estate office.  I am pumped up for it and just thinking about it is getting me fired up.  We all can have a plan for 2012. And aspirations. But I think good business mojo all starts with that positive thought and is carried out with that positive energy.

Let’s face it, no client wants to deal with someone who is talking negative or who is not at the top of their game. Be positive! And surround yourself with positive people. Sounds simple.  It will take you to higher levels in your business.  We all can be better agents today.  It just starts with a positive thought!

Squeezing Lemons and Seizing Opportunity

Squeezing Lemons and Seizing Opportunity

How often have you come across someone that says I could have bought this property or that property for some absurdly Squeezing Lemons and Seizing Opportunitylow amount of money ?   And then they live in regret and tell the same "would of should of could of" story over and over to all of their friends.   And for you stock market followers, remember when Apple was trading at $10 a share before the company reinvented itself ?  Imagine that...  Now it is close to $300 !!!  If you only knew then what you know now, right ?

The same situation applies to relationships. There are those relationships that never happened due to not seizing the moment.  There are novels written and songs sung about the regret of a relationship that never happened. The same goes for job advancement and asking for a raise. I have read numerous times that one of the reasons that folks do not get a salary increase is that they simply did not ask for it.  Think about that for a second...

One of Wayne Gretzky's famous quotes is "You will miss 100 percent of the shots you never take. "   Another great quote by Michael Jordon is "I can accept failure, everyone fails at something. But I can't accept not trying."

Why I am writing this today you ask ?  Because I firmly believe there is tremendous opportunity available to all of us out there, no matter what industry you are in or where you are in your life.  Our economy always has its peaks and valleys.  That is the history. It is a sign that we are alive and constantly evolving. Sometimes it takes someone to remind us that opportunities are even MORE magnified during the downturn, that inspiration can be found in the valley.  That is where fortunes can be made, new business models are created, innovation and creativity is intensified and opportunities are endless for those that are willing to work hard and not fall into the trap of waiting for something to happen. Beware of the negative talkers, the doom and gloomers, the naysayers, and so forth.  Without risk, there is no reward. And I know it is cliche but "no pain no gain."

Bart Blatstein at RE/MAX Access Sales MeetingThe person who reminded me of my conviction and belief that when life tosses you lemons, make lemonade, is Bart Blatstein, a prolific real estate developer who is very well known in our parts of Philadelphia.  Bart spoke at our monthly RE/MAX Access sales meeting and shared his experiences over the years through those very same peaks and valleys I mentioned earlier.  Blatstein shared some of his own experiences negotiating through some tough personal and economic times.  He concurs that it is in those valleys is where we find real success, and that the opportunities are upon us now.

If you have been reading our blog and newsletter, you know our thoughts about opportunity and seizing the moment in the Philadelphia Real Estate market.  We think there are deals to be had for buyers and investors right now.  Mortgage rates are at historical lows and we know they will not stay that way.  Do not be the one who says "I would of could of should of" bought that great investment property or taken advantage of the mortgage rates when they were so low.  And for you sellers out there, especially if you want to buy, do not wait for the interest rates to go up and your purchasing power to go down.  The opportunity for you is right now.

Opportunity - Seize it when it comes !   Whether it be your first new home, an investment property, a financial opportunity, your first date, a job opportunity, a pay raise or whatever it is in front of you that helps you move forward in life in a positive light !  We hope to see you out there sipping your own hand-squeezed lemonade.

Do you appreciate what you have ?

Appreciation

It can only get better from here !!  Or will it get worse before it gets better ?  Either way, we are probably close to the worse with all the negative doom and gloom and the stock market crashing every day.  There is simply a lot of negativity out there... A LOT !  The negativity can have an affect on us - the key is we do not have to let it.

Appreciation

Last night, we received a call from a long term client that they want to take their listing somewhere else.  This was a complete suprise to us - a complete suprise.  We dominate this section of the city and no one does the type of adverstising that we do.  But at the end of the day, I guess it is understandable that a seller would just want to try "a different direction" .

Further, our ratio of getting new listings is very high.  We just found out that on a recent listing appointment we had in another area we excel in, the seller chose to list the property with another agent that does not have a presence in the area ??

It is baffling.  Moral of the story is that I can hold on to things too tight and can get all concerned and be hard on myself and wonder why for hours and days on the deals we do not get or listings we lose.  The better (and healthier and more professional) approach is to let go and wish both sellers the best !!  And then concentrate more on the 50 to 60 listings that we do have and the sellers who really appreciate what we do as well as appreciate our efforts in a tough market.  Once I start to think like that, I can really appreciate all the business that we do have and appreciate all the clients that we are servicing and doing great things for in this tough market.    Who knows ?  Maybe both of these sellers will be back in 3 to 6 months if their properties do not sell  ?

Either way, I can appreciate and focus on the things that we do have instead of focusing and worrying about the things that we don't.

Are you appreciating the things that you have ?  Or focusing on the things you don't ?

Are you thinking positively or letting all the negativity and doom and gloom affect your outlook ?
