We've all felt the effects of influence on our lives. Remember that kid your mother warned you about when you were a teenager. Looking back now you probably agree, they were a "bad influence"on you. As adults in business, you may know it as SOI or "Sphere of Influence" and you've been taught to recognize your sphere as your friends, family, and colleagues, etc. No doubt, we live in a world dictated by a very diverse group of influencers from Obama to Lady Gaga to Sponge Bob Square Pants !
This year more than ever before, Chris and I have recognized our own place as influential people -- particularly in our Real Estate business. Obvious examples of our influence are: the people we bring together whether it be matching the mortgage person to a buyer to save a deal, when we delve into the unpleasant responsibility of a short sale to prevent a family from experiencing the painful and destructive fall-out of a foreclosure, or the countless buyers and sellers we bring together to a settlement table. The domino effect of influence for every one of even the slightest actions we take is hard to comprehend.
But, one of the best examples of our use of influence occurred when we began to Blog. The Somers blog is a place we can share information about more than just Real Estate. We created it as a place we can discuss the great people, places and things that have influenced us. Our blog reaches far beyond our SOI. We love it and we sometimes do not take a moment to recognize the gift we have, called influence.
Did you know that you also have this gift? Chris and I are not special. Everyone has it. We all have the ability to influence people and situations in a positive way that can be profound. You possess the inherent gift that is stronger than steel! That is pretty strong! In a really rotten economy you have something that is more valuable than gold! Best part is, It is FREE! Your personal influence can be more dazzling than the most expertly cut diamond. You know, NASA makes some seriously powerful lasers out of diamonds. Cool, right? You possess the power of influence. How awesome is that?
