Did Someone Say Herman Miller Chairs in Fishtown?

Herman Miller chairQuick. Hide our checkbook. Fishtown is getting a furniture sale that's right up our alley.

Mid-Century Furniture Warehouse, located at 1217 E Columbia between Moyer and Girard in Fishtown, has just announced a warehouse sale on Saturday from 12-5pm. That leaves you plenty of time to convince your roommates that it's time for a new coffee table over brunch at Johnny Brendas.

Yes, homeowners and fixer-upper couples, the coveted furniture that you've drooled over will finally be within your reach. They'll have some well-made bar stools, for anyone in the process of opening a bar or restaurant. How about some crazy modern chairs and lounges for modern furniture geeks and collectors? And lest we forget, there will be lighting, art, and vintage clothing for all of you casual browsers.

Do you have a pair of knockoff Design Within Reach piston stools and want the real thing? There's a pair up for sale for only $400. The warehouse will have lots of inventory, with prices starting at $20. These are real statement pieces and are also great investments, so even if you're not searching for anything, maybe you know someone who is and can think of a local business in which it would fit perfectly. Say, that funky coffeeshop you practically live in? Or your friend's art studio? Happy shopping.

Lanterns, Tables, and Chairs from Kensington's Woodworking Genius

Tim Lewis Studio on Howard StOn a quiet, industrial-looking street in Kensington, you probably wouldn't notice Tim Lewis's inconspicuous studio. But it's here, on Howard Street in the artsy, emerging neighborhood, where the woodworker crafts his amazing furniture and lighting designs. Lewis' mod coffee and end tables were featured on Apartment Therapy earlier this year, along with his Strap Chairs. Lewis' lanterns are perfect for a front porch, deck, or patio set-up, and they're made from different woods or quirky materials like copper toilet floats. Contact Lewis if you're interested in a custom design or one of the pieces featured in his portfolio.

Time for a new sofa? Moving into a new place or even adapting to a more modern interior can call for upgraded seating that fits the look. Maybe you're transitioning from a minimalist approach to something that's more cozy. There are plenty of options in Philadelphia for all of your settee-shopping needs.

We like Minima in Old City for all things mod and cutting edge. The name says it all. We can see this Showtime sofa from Barcelona Design in the single modernista's airy loft.

Your plan is to make a real investment, a couch that stands on its own as a real work of art? Head over to Design Within Reach in Rittenhouse Square. The caramel leather Frank Lloyd Wright sofa (originally designed in 1912) is back in production there. Scope the many classic options at DWR, long-lasting designs that leave a real impression.

The aptly named Philadelphia sofa by Matthew Izzo is just one of the many selections you can order from the edgy fashion boutique in Old City. Izzo also stocks a variety of contemporary GUS sofas in vinyl upholstery or the super cool leather alternative Couchoid from Blu Dot. It's worth checking out Fosters down the street for similar designs.
