Wainscoting - that is.
Your next question may be what on earth is it and why is it all over the walls?
Allow us to explain.
Wainscot is a type of paneling that is applied to the lower section of an interior wall. It was originally a 16th century English wall application and its purpose was to protect from water damage and hide wall joints. And now? Well, it's just ornamental but it adds a bit of that Old English charm and it is often found in high-end homes creating and evoking a sense of European history. Wainscoting can give a room an instant touch of elegance and a certain appreciation for craftsmanship.
Where can you find it? The wainscoting inside 2011 Tulip Street in Fishtown is a perfect example of modern day use of paneling detail.
