Tip Jar: Curb Appeal in the Concrete Jungle

Everyone knows that curb appeal is the first thing people judge when they see a home. It is more popularly associated with the suburbs sprawling green dandelion free lawns and flower beds over flowing with black licorice mulch. But in the Concrete Jungle in Philly where brick row homes and condo facades are the majority, homeowners have to rethink what defines their curb in the world of Curb Appeal.

For condo and apartment dwellers, you need to consider more than just your outside curb when it comes to Curb Appeal if you are looking to make the best impressions on visitors. Hallways and common areas are important extensions of a Condo's Curb. Visitors, guests and other residents can't help but make a judgement based on your common area's curb appeal. Dingy and poorly lit halls, scuffed walls, lack of decor, weird smells, and a dirty common areas are real turnoffs for people.

If you want Curb Appeal in the Concrete Jungle, then consider these tips:

1) Re-paint halls and use a de-scuffing agent to keep the walls looking fresh

2) Add light and replace burnt out bulbs to keep things bright

3) Keep the common space clear of trash and clutter and clean regularly

4) Add art or furniture to a lifeless space to make it feel homier

5) Use an air freshener in the common area when the air begins to smell stale

Just because you live in a Concrete Jungle does not mean it has to look and smell like a Zoo.
