North Bowl and NLNA Team up for the Annual Winterfest

North Bowl and NLNA Team up for the Annual Winterfest

The Northern Liberties Neighborhood Association (NLNA) slipped on their bowling shoes this past Sunday North Bowlafternoon, laced up with all of their good friends and admirers, and bowled a really good game at their Annual Winter Fest Fundraiser held at North Bowl in Northern Liberties.  I do not know how much money was ultimately raised for the community but the way I was keeping score, this was a perfect game which, by the way, is a score of 300 for those of you who do not play the pins. Fundraisers are very difficult for non profit organizations these days and this one was no lucky strike. So many people participated for a great cause and the afternoon played out as smooth and polished as the pine floors.

If you were not there, here is what you missed. There was flagrant and open socializing with an abundance of giggles and frequent outbursts of hysterical laughter, mostly coming from Matt Ruben and Frank Hyder. There was alley to alley entertainment that engaged every age from infant to infinity. There was a seemingly endless cornucopia of delicious food and drink of which the partaking was shamelessly delightful. There was simply no escaping the multiple floors of fun and games that were enjoyed with reckless abandon by everyone. There was even a flat screen tv for practically every inquiring eye to keep up with the Olympic Hockey competition between the US and Canada. However, it was the servers who were the real  Olympians making all of the food appear and the plates disappear, a performance worthy of a Gold Medal.  Everyone was grooving to the constant flow of music from the DJ booth manned by DJ Frosty.

Christopher Richetti, a recent addition to the Northern Liberties Zoning committee and a dazzling bowler, zeroed in on what the fundraiser really accomplished. Christopher was surprised by the large turnout and saw a lot of familiar faces. "It was a good mixed crowd with a lot of families, local sponsors, and volunteers. This event revealed all of the things that you want to see in a neighborhood like Northern Liberties. It really showed a snapshot of the neighborhood as a whole."

NLNA Sponsors

Some of the sponsors for the fundraiser generously offered raffle prizes whose names included many of our neighborhood favorites such as Voila Home Design, Iron Works Gym, Liberties Restaurant and Bar, One Shot Coffee, Dos Segundos, City Planter , Silk City, Ortliebs, Honeys, Full Plate, Chez Bow Wow, Rustica, and North 3rd Restaurant.

There were some strikes, there were a couple of spares and perhaps even a few gutter balls though from my perspective the entire neighborhood was ultimately the winner.  And for the folks who have not sunk their thumb and forefingers into 8 pounds of solid urethane (that is what bowing balls are made of these days) don't fret, North Bowl is open 7 days a week with plenty of lanes, 21,000 square feet offering both plenty of bowling and a nightlife haven.

Breathtaking City Views from our new RE/MAX office of Northern Liberties and Philadelphia

Northern Liberties Real Estate - Breathtaking City Views from our new RE/MAX office at the Piazza

When I was in our new office the other day monitoring the fit-out, I could not help but take a couple of photos of our view.  I doubt neither myself nor any of the agents working at our office, nor the clients visiting, will ever tire of the views.  The views and location are simply magnificent.   If you are in the area and wish to check it out, email or call us.

The Piazza is an amazing place of people, shops and energy.  We love it when the Phillies are on the wide-screen.  We can watch the games from our balcony !

We are very excited about our RE/MAX office moving to Northern Liberties !  Our fit-out is moving fast !  It is awesome to live and work in the fabulous Northern Liberties neighborhood !

Philadelphia Independent Film Fesitval in Northern Liberties !

Where else can you go where there will be 190 movies (233 total including second showings) over a four-day festival ?  Well, right here in Northern Liberties through June 28, 2009 !

It is awesome that these independent films get an opportunity to be shown, especially because we are disappointed over pretty much EVERY main stream movie !  The venue being in Northern Liberties is both vibrant and centric for the movies and the folks coming in to see.  Some of the cool places for the screenings include Tower Investments, City Fitness, Exit Skateshop, Yards Brewery, Arbol Cafe, Dave and Busters and Invincible Pictures.

Come on out and check it out !!!

If we can take a break from our hectic real estate schedules, we will be at a screening near you !

Who was Keeping it Real in Northern Liberties Friday Night?

Who was keeping it real in Northern Liberties Friday night?

Jesse the ArtistPerhaps the better question is: Who was keeping it Photo-realistic?Jesse Beamsderfer and Arcadia Boutique were keeping real in the Northernliberhood on Friday night. Jesse is a talented technical artist whose photo-realistic fashion inspired ink drawings are featured in Arcadia Boutique through August.

We had a chance to talk to the artist face to face at his opening reception regarding the inspiration for his featured study called PAPERDOLLS. In speaking with him, it was evident that he has a real passion for drawing and I was amazed to learn that much of his work was done with a brush as well as more technical instruments.

Arcadia is to thank for not only being the host store for artists like Jesse but also for providing the difficult to find eco-conscious labels in fashion all under one roof. The Foodery is also to thank for taking good care of Jesse and giving him the night off Friday!

Great show guys!

Flowers Etc by Denise - The best in Northern Liberties !

Flowers Etc by Denise - The Best in Northern Liberties !

Yesterday, I called Denise who owns "Flowers Etc by Denise" at 2nd and Fairmount and ordered flowers for my wife Stephanie.  As usual, a beautiful arrangement was delivered that day, literally within a few hours.  Her arrangements are always stunning and simply majestic to say the least.  When I see Stephanie smile from receiving the flowers, it warms my heart as well.  Below is a photo of the arrangement that came yesterday.

If you live in Northern Liberties, and have not been to Denise's store, it is a must visit.  She also has the cutest puppy !  On her voicemail, she will say if she is not there, she may be out walking the dog : )  Her store is right at the corner of 2nd and Fairmount - see below:

Flowers Etc by Denise - Northern Liberties

I have been ordering plants and flowers from Denise for over 5 years.  One of our favorite closing gifts to a buyer or seller is a plant.  Our clients are always happy and find a place in their new home for a beautiful plant.  It is a goal for us to support the local businesses in Northern Liberties where we live.  It really is a special neighborhood !

A Taste of Victory in Northern Liberties. The Foodery during Philly Beer Week.

The sweet taste of Victory ...

... Victory beer that is during Philadelphia Beer week.  Victory Brewing Company was the taste of the hour in Northern Liberties at The Foodery on N 2nd Street and Poplar. The place was packed with happy smiling faces. I am telling you, it was a very welcomed distraction for me at the end of a long day.

The Foodery Northern Liberties Beer Week Philadelphia    The Foodery Northern Liberties Victory Beer Guys

The Foodery has an enormous selection of really delicious and impossible to find beers. I am pretty much a simple Stella drinker but on occasion I have been known to experiment. Victory Beer is really popular in these parts. The Victory Brewing Companyhas a Restaurant in Downingtown, PA that I personally have visited for a fine meal (of which I have no recollection of what that meal was) but believe me, a great time was had by all!

The Foodery Northern Liberties

If you are ever in Philadelphia, definitely visit the Foodery for a beer and sandwich. They have the best Panini and Deli food in the neighborhood and no better beer selection hands down. Plus the guys that work the counter are the best. They are the icing on the cake or perhaps I sould say, the foam on the beer.  You know what I mean.

The Northern Liberties Settlement Must Go On !

The Northern Liberties Settlement Must Go On !

Last night, the news was that we were expecting close to 10 inches of snow for Philadelphia.  The seller was doubtful that the settlement would happen today due to the snow.  When I woke up, the Northern Liberties streets were covered with snow with basically the whole city shutting down.  Below are 2 photos this morning, one from our rooftop at Poplar Estates and one from our deck.

Northern Liberties Real Estate - The Settlement Must Go On !

Northern Liberties Real Estate - The Settlement Must Go On !

In any event, the settlement was for 9:30 am.  I got a text from the buyer's agent that they were all there !  I had called Liberty Cab to pick me up at 9:20 am but with the weather and the roads they did not pick me up close to 10:00 am.  I was going to trudge through the snow but my wife Stephanie did not want me to test the elements (bless her heart !).  In any event, when you represent the seller, you can be fashionably late, and after all, there was a blizzard !  So I get there just as the mortgage papers were winding down (perfect timing !) and wrapped up the settlement.  There were a few minor things to work out so we all drove in the snow back to the property.  Fortunately, a good contractor friend of mine came by to ensure that the hot water heater was in good working order as he turned the pilot heater on.  It is good to have connections !   And for this settlement, not even 10 inches of snow was going to prevent it from happening !

We love selling properties in Northern Liberties !  This was the property at 122 W Laurel that sold today.

Another successful sale in Northern Liberties !

Northern Liberties Real Estate

I must admit I love selling real estate in the Philadelphia real estate marketAnd I really love selling properties in Northern Liberties !  Why you ask ?  Because we live in the neighborhood and are a part of the community !!

We are very passionate and interested in the community and love to see the progress, the development and the changes over the years.  Recently, I highlighted a blog post about the Top 15 Neigborhoods to Buy Real Estate Highlighted by Business Week , one of which was Northern Liberties !!  How cool is that ?

In any event, when I meet with a seller who has a property to sell in Northern Liberties, I tell them who better to sell your property than someone who lives in the neighborhood, someone who knows everything about the neighborhood !!  From the restaurants, the galleries, the shops, the parks, the real estate market and the list goes on and on.

As a realtor, I think it is a great idea to focus on a target market for some of your business.  And as a consumer, either a potential seller or a potential buyer, I recommend to use someone who is an expert in the area.  That additional consultation and intricate knowledge of what is going on in any specific neighborhood is invaluable.

In any event, if the buyer or the seller is reading this, congrats on the condo in Northern Liberties !  For this particular deal that settled this week, as it turned out, I ended up being a dual agent, meaning representing both buyer and seller.  Dual agency can be tricky sometimes but it can also be a great benefit for both clients which will be a topic for a future blog post.

For now, happy holidays !  I love Northern Liberties !  Please visit these Northern Liberties posts for more of our blog posts about the neighborhood.

Charlie visited Chez Bow Wow at Liberties Walk - Northern Liberties !

Chez Bow Wow in Northern Liberties

Last week we got our cat Charlie shaved and groomed at Chez Bow Wow in Northern Liberties.  Whenever we bring him home, he is like a new cat.  He is more limber and runs around like a mad man.  The first time we brought him home, our other cat Ashley did not recognize for a day !   My wife Stephanie loves it for there is less hair to clean up and less hairballs !  He complains about going in the cat box but we think he really likes it afterwards !

Chez Bow Wow is a relatively new addition to Northern Liberties at Liberties Walk.  The staff is always very pleasant and fun.  There are always a number of other pets there which makes it a fun trip.  The store is certainly a great addition to Northern Liberties and we would recommend to go there for anyone who is intersted in getting their pet groomed !

Below are a few photos of Charlie after his grooming.  His haircut costs much more than mine !!!

Check out the website for Chez Bow Wow !

Also look at their photo gallery - a lot of great snapshots !

Maybe I can bribe them to add Charlie to their site ???
