Is Blogging like Exercising ?
I think so. They are both an action. Both require practice, discipline, structure and inspiration.
Also, they both require scheduling. For our blog, our goal is to write 5 to 7 blog posts per week. At the same time, I have recently set a goal to have a workout 3 times a week.
Right now, I am accomplishing our blog goals but am behind on the exercise goals. I did have 2 work-outs last week so am close.
Either way, when I was at the gym on Sunday, I noticed something interesting. There was a spinning class going on. During the same time, I went on the running machine. In the past, I would work out 5 to 7 times a week and do spinning classes regularly at The Sporting Club at the Bellvue. Now I am a little shy and not sure how I would fare. So with that fear, I did not want to take the spinning class. But doing the exercise at the same time worked out well as the music was blaring and it got me pumped up to stay on the bike longer than usual. It also inspires me to come back more and maybe at the same time the spinning class is !
Blogging is similar in that in the beginning, one does not know what they are doing and may be afraid of writing a bad blog post, getting zero comments or just lacking confidence. During that time, it is a good idea to read other blog posts and get acclimated and do a little practice on your own. A related blog post to that is:
Learning from Other Succesful Bloggers - Watch Listen and Observe
My goal moving forward is to take some of my discipline and structure I have for blogging into exercising. I know I need it to keep my stress and anxiety in check. I think this applies to all of us no matter what industry you are in to be able to set goals, establish structure and scheduling and stick with it !
Think I can do it ? What goals are you setting for the year ?

Blogging, like exercise, takes planning, commitment, and consistency. Once those are in place a good habit is formed and it becomes more easy to fall into the routine. Love the analogy and good luck with both!
Bloggins started out for me as a hobby . .and slowly became a lead generation tool. .I blog for leads everyday.. .
I think they are similar. I thoroughly enjoy both and think seeing results is helpful as well. I'm sure a lot of people have given up too soon because they don't see their desired results, or perhaps have unrealistic expectations. As we all know, everything takes hard work. Thanks for the post.
Hi C&S, I do think blogging is like exercise. They both take discipline and most start out slowly & get better as they progress and prgressively get more endurance. I do have to say I prefer blogging to exercise though! My exercise is usually just walking the dogs as they think that is the greatest thing in the world but last night we rode our bicycles. That is going to take some getting used to as my butt is sore from that seat! Probably more info than you needed but I believe if I keep at it (like I keep @ blogging) it will come as second nature to me. Have a great day! KM
Any type of activicty requires disipline. Wihtout it, you just flounder and waste time.
Christopher and Stephanie:
That's a pretty good analogy. We do more of what we are comfortable with. Human nature.
Richard
Hi C&S - Now that you bring it up I do think blogging is like exercising. As with starting at a new club there is the fear of not knowing your surroundings, but once you've gone a few times then you start seeing familiar faces and look forward to going and become disciplined.
Chris - When I can exercise as much as I blog, I will be ready for the prize fight.
Everybody is happy with the status quo , you really have to step out of your comfort zone to accomplish anything worth doing
Connie - Thanks ! Just writing this blog post inspires me to go to the gym more often !
Fernando - That is awesome. Successful lead generation from blogging will keep you blogging for sure !
Dan and Amy- So true ! Both blogging and exercise can generate fast short term results but the best results are over the long term !
KM- I totally agree ! The more you do anything the easier it becomes... it not only becomes natural but becomes a habit or a very interested hobby instead of something to dread... LOL
Richard- Yes, a good analogy ! Now I just need to put more structure into exercise as I do blogging !
Maria - Yes, exactly ! It takes time to build up a little confidence !!!
Matt- LOL ! You and me both : )
Laura - I agree ! Once one steps outside of their comfort zone, that is where the large growth spurts come in.
William - Discipline is the key as well as practice practice practice.
Great post Chris! I swim, bike and light weights to stay in shape... if I can replace any of these with blogging and not only burn calories but get my endorphins fix... I will be in HEAVEN!
Now, seriously, I agree with everyone who's left a comment here... and this is what I tell my clients: want to blog? Then get ready for a serious time investment and commitment! Blogging can help you create and establish a powerful personal brand - BUT ONLY IF YOU STAY IN TUNE WITH THE MARKET TRENDS, HAVE SOMETHING RELANT TO SHARE AND KEEP UP WITH IT!!!
Love your blog posts, keep it up! Cheers!
Liana - Thanks for the encouragement and inspiration ! Was great seeing you yesterday ! Am pumped up for the updating of The Somers Team - Philadelphia Real Estate !
The bottom line is that both blogging and exercising require a commitment and it takes a serious time investment. ~ Chris
You are so right. Lately I have been just "squeezing in" my blogging. I really have to put it in my schedule.
Tina- It is hard to stay on top of it for sure. I have been doing pretty good with blogging but would like to be doing more exercising !
