If you're an adult and you've never been to the Philadelphia Zoo (or haven't gone since that class trip years ago), the Summer Ale Festival is an opportunity to have an animal adventure, grown-up style. If you happen to live in nearby Brewerytown, just consider this instead of another evening at your local pub.
This is the second year for the annual fundraising event brought to us by the Philadelphia Zoo and Rolling Barrel Events. Expect lifesize LEGO brick animals as part of Creatures of Habitat: A Gazillion Piece Animal Adventure. Craft beer from several breweries including Dock Street, Manayunk Brewery, Philadelphia Brewing, Victory, and others will be on tap. Regional cuisine from local favorites like Cantina Dos Segundos, the Abbaye, Rembrandts, and more will be served.
During the event, you can vote for Philly's Favorite Summer Beer. The beer that receives the top votes will be announced in the July/August issue of Philly Beer Scene Magazine.
Tickets range from $25 for designated drivers to $55 for general admission and $80 for VIP access. You can purchase tickets on the web site.
We're a city that loves animals just as much as we love our beer, and with this event, you can have a good time appreciating both.

That sounds so fun! Are you going to taste them all.....or be the designated driver? :o)
Being from Harrisburg I like to pay attention to what is going on in Philly. We're not that far away and it makes an easy day trip or weekend getaway. This just adds to our 'let's get out of town and do something fun' list.
Chris and Stephanie - The Philadelphia Zoo is one of my favorites to this day (my wife and I visit zoos and aquariums a lot when we travel or live in a different location). When they do their "after dark" and evening events - even better. I can imagine this will be an excellent one.
Ann- As far as drinking and driving ins concerned we have only one word... TAXI !
I have not been to Harrisburg in a while but it is not far Patrick. Thanks for your comment.
Matt, the twilight events at the Zoo have always brought a big crowd.
I still have my little red elephant key to listen to all of the educational recordings around the zoo. I've had it since my 6th grade field trip......back in 1972. HA!
Thanks so much for another great post.
