One of our Somers Team listings, 1925 E. Cambria Street in Harrowgate, is part of a very special effort that will benefit a family in need. We reached out to Liat Buchnik of First CornerStone Bank to find out more.
"Due to the overall economic state, First CornerStone Bank has obtained a number of properties in the greater Philadelphia area. Instead of dumping the properties for pennies-on-the-dollar, and making a bad situation worse for both the Bank and neighborhoods by driving property values down, the Bank is looking to hold on to the properties until the economy turns around," Buchnik explains.
The community-focused bank wanted to give back to the neighborhood, and so it reached out to Habitat for Humanity, Ronald McDonald House, Rebuilding Together Philadelphia, and Project H.O.M.E., to find a deserving family in need of shelter. The chosen family was offered one of its Philadelphia properties for approximately 3-6 months, rent-free. The family was responsible for utilities.
"At the present time, we are offering one property for this program. With the help of the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House and St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children, we were able to find a wonderful family who will be moving into this property", adds Buchnik, "Once the family has moved in, the Bank will explore the option, and hopefully be able to provide one or two additional properties for this cause. We are very excited to be able to give back to the community this way, and have the ability to turn a bad situation into a wonderful one!"
We are glad to hear that 1925 E. Cambria is a part of this cause to help families in need and we hope that the project can continue. Thank you, First Cornerstone Bank, for setting a wonderful example of giving back to your community.

Chris,,, this is awesome.. glad to see some people doing this... in this case, a bank. Especially in this economy and when people need some help. thanks for sharing.
Now that's a great story! People and especially banks need to read this. I'm suggesting this to be featured! Thanks for sharing.
Tim
Hannah, Jeff and Tim,
I am really happy to see this happening myself. If Elaine (my fellow team member) had not mentioned this to me in passing I would never have known about it. I think that perhaps may banks, businesses, and individuals are helping others in this way but are not bringing attention to themselves. It is good to be modest or do things on the "down low" but these stories inspire others to do good things.
If you are doing something right or good, talk about it or tell us. We certainly will.
Thank you Chris & Steph for sharing this blog! Also Liat & First CornerStone Bank for the permission to post. Congrat's on a Great Job!
